Erin Côté

Crazy Ex Girlfriend

Cheeky Saint EP

Vancouver, BC

Genres: Pop, Folk, Jazz, Singer/Songwriter

Erin Côté delivers up some bold witt and commanding vocals in her new release titled "Crazy Ex Girlfriend" from Cheeky Saint EP. This talented Singer/Songwriter pairs with Keith Burchnall on piano and guitar.

"Crazy Ex Girlfriend" is a fun witted, pop folk feel. With crystal clear lyricism, and catchy melody, this track might get stuck in your head with a smile on. This track has made for radio feels.

"Stranger on the Skytrain" is upbeat with some shout outs to Vancouver Canucks. This sound has some feels from 1950's. Her vocals are enjoyable, paired with catchy quick lyrics, with themes on the mundane courses of daily life talking with a stranger on a train.

"Diamonds and Gold" is sultry, and jazz filled pop stylings. Her vocals are a beautiful showcase of her range as an artist. This track is very a different soundscape compared to other tracks.

"Moon Maddness" is more experimental compared to other tracks from Cheeky Saint EP. With obscure sound samplings. The vocals are a bit distant and this seems to be the less professionally recorded song on the EP. Which is too bad because the background sounds take away from the beautiful vocals, which we wish were more forefront.

Flash back to the 50's! This band finds their own unique sound, blending the past with the present.

In "Useless Love" the band gets cheeky, with lyrics trickled with sarcasm about a failing romance, juxtaposed with an upbeat melody. This melancholy song has a balance of a cheerful beat, with break up themes. This track has a Stylophone played by Dune Butler.

Their new album, "Out of Everything", is set to release in the near future.

Dan Snakehead is a Certified Canadian West Coast Disc Jockey, who started in 1999, and graduated from Vancouver's Rhythm Institute DJ Academy, in 2004.

Now a household name amongst the West Coast of Canada, and a staple in the music festival culture, he's had multiple performances in almost every notable event in his area and beyond.

Some examples of his venues and stage's he has played, are as follows, but not limited to:

Shambhala

Burning Man

Dan has also competed in the world renowned DJ Mix Championships (DMC's). Surprisingly enough, not as a producer, he actually blew us away and he rocked a couple new roles as prospector and curator.

Dan prides himself on inspiring, encouraging and promoting his fellow colleagues from around the world.

In the scene, instead of playing from a perspective of competition, he hopes everyone has a great experience. This is only one of the many reasons we love hearing him while he plays, and why we even bother hanging out with him off stage for a few laughs.

As if he couldn't be busy enough...

He currently hosts Nocturnal Emissions, marking it's 3rd year as Mixcloud Canada's #1 Drum & Bass broadcast!

Nocturnal Emissions is quickly becoming a globally recognized radio show / stepping stone, for up & coming drum & bass producers.

A weekly 4 hour COMMERCIAL FREE broadcast features releases only from the prior 7 days, and includes a midnight spotlight, or guest mix.

(WAIL loves Commercial Free ideas! I am personally super excited to hear this, and I hope I can participate!)

Coming at us from The Motor City, USA, are some divine stylings by Noveliss & Dixon Hill.

These artists bring a truly unique sound to the hip-hop table, with their latest album titled "The Book of Changes" inspired by the I Ching, a collection of poems by the legendary hermet of Chinese legend, Hanshan. The heart-based rhymes of Noveliss, are crafted in collaboration with the ethereal soundscapes of beatmaker/producer and composer Dixon Hill. This album brings us to a place of isolation. To a meditative, contemplative state of mind, within ourselves.

This zen poet Noveliss has a love for nerd culture, which really captured our nerdy hearts here at WAIL.

With Electronic fusions, and pops of Pop, this self-identified Indigenous/ Queer artist has an unapologetic presence, and powerful energy behind each of her unique tracks.

Her debut album "Heartbreak On The Coast" dropped August 30, 2019, and she is hoping she inspires her audience to relate to her vulnerable showcase. Her album is a melancholic, heart felt share, about falling in love with a person of the same sex, the emotions that she experienced, and the heart break that unfolded. A rare, genuine, and beautiful approach to songwriting, NIMKISH wears her heart on her sleeve, and shares her most intimate feelings, loud and proud.

We enjoy the variety presented in each track, and we especially suggest listening to "She Don't Know", and "Twice".

Hopefully paving the way for other folks to follow, we appreciate NIMKISH's bold, authentic and tender style.

Vancouver, BC

Genre: Hip Hop

"MC. Poet. Freestyler. Spitter. Rhymer. Cypherer."

Spitting quick witted rhymes and uninhibited authentic narratives over contemporary and classic hip hop beats, Vancouver born and raised Kavi Lehdar showcases his raw talent in his new music video "Elephants in the Room", featuring Artist and Producer Rozmo. Kavi (the Hindi word for Poet) has a knack for delivering up lyrics soaked in blunt self-truth, and he isn't shy about sharing vulnerable emotions of his life story, making his impressive and unique freestyles relatable to a diverse range of audiences. Not only is Kavi a clever and talented lyricist, he is also a highly community minded individual who loves promoting other musicians, and hosts The Clockwork ANZA Open Mic every Thursday in Vancouver, BC (see poster below).
Dirty Mike

Vancouver, BC

Genres: Hip Hop, Rap

Self identified as the "prettiest ugly rapper", Dirty Mike is a Hip Hop artist on the rise. Often performing at Open Mic Nights around Vancouver, BC, Dirty Mike is influenced greatly by artists ScHoolboy Q, Big K.R.I.T, and The Weeknd. He delivers quick witted rap rhymes, with saucy lyrics, often discussing his own life experience, in a very authentic way. His laid-back, raw raps, are delivered with chill, heart felt rhythms, true to himself, and he definitely does not dabble in self censorship.

GLYDE

Vancouver, BC

Electronic, Ambient, Celestial

GLYDE is the brainchild of Singer, Guitarist, Producer, Greg Marino, based out of Vancouver, BC.

Tranquil, delicate, and soul nourishing, GLYDE keeps each track's sound solely unique, filled with intriguing celestial instrumentals, playful drops, and sprinkled with trance inducing vocals. Inspired by the Moon, the divinity of femininity and, of course, love, GLYDE embraces the challenge of being able to create a sonic narrative for the audience to interpret themselves. Marino wishes his audience to feel free in connecting with their own divinity through his music.

When asked about his vision for GLYDE, Marino answered, "I hope to ignite the inner spark that I feel when I create my music, in others, and to offer an authentic experience. There aren't many electronic dance music producers who play live guitar, sing and mix at the same time, so I see that as something that people may find different and interesting."

Tiger Bomber

Lethbridge, AB

Genres: Rock

Tiger Bomber started as a recording project between Cole Lindenbach (vocals) and Ben Kellock (guitar), who had worked together writing songs in a different band for a number of years prior. When they came to the realisation that they may never have a solid group of guys to jam with again, they decided to record their previous work in order to have something to show for the their dwindling musical career. It was during these recording sessions that their sound was rejuvenated and before long, other members Brendan Long (drums) and Ryan Schumacher (bass) joined the band and they have been playing ever since.

Tiger Bomber's sound traces its roots to the post-grunge genre while advancing a progressively structured song format. Their songs take the listener through a variety of dynamics from dreamy ambient melodies to shredding and head banging breakdowns. The band has completed their first debut album which is currently in editing but is scheduled to be released in early fall 2017.

WAIL MUSIC MAGAZINEtag:wailmusicmag.com,2005:Post/47442852017-06-14T00:19:27-07:002020-12-02T06:33:13-08:00A. Trozzo & The Electric Few
WAIL Music Magazine is stoked to shine spotlight on
A. Trozzo & The Electric Few (aka, AT&EF / The Electric Flu / The Electric Two)
Genre: Heavy / Trashy/ Garage / Rock & Roll

Aaron Trozzo has played in the dog's breakfast of bands around Lethbridge for a solid twelve years. Having simultaneously played in three bands for six of those years he developed a great local following and embarked on several tours of Western Canada.
Following some health complications in 2016, A. Trozzo took time to focus on himself and stepped back from his pre-existing projects. He maintained his connection to the music scene through his employment as manger of CKXU 88.3 FM, Lethbridge's only campus/community radio. His hiatus from performing live gave him time to relax, centre himself, and reevaluate his creative direction. He spent the winter, spring, and summer months of 2016 writing new material - free of expectations of what the music should sound like.
Fast forward to September 2016 when, after some friendly encouragement, he made the decision to release some of the resulting material.
The "A.Trozzo & The Electric Few" project officially had legs and was somehow already jogging toward the release of a five-song E.P. in October.

Though 2017 is only in its early days, it has already shown promise with support coming from Campus Community radio stations, independent music media sources, and generally positive vibrations all around. With the release of a full-length album on the horizon, along with a Western Canadian tour slated for mid-May 2017, it's exciting to consider the momentum the band has already generated.

With the aforementioned information in mind, you might call AT&EF a response to physical and emotional challenges, or you could enjoy the sound of its heavy, booze-soaked garage rock.
Either way, A.Trozzo & The Electric Few’s “Bandate” is to breathe new life into preconceived notions of contemporary rock & roll.
Years of improvised jamming with a veritable cocktail of local musicians in the Lethbridge scene have garnered incredibly flexible skill-sets for each band member. AT&EF are extremely adaptable in live situations and are adept at translating their material effectively as a four, three, or even two-piece band.

Keep your eyes peeled for winter and spring dates in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Additionally, check 'em out when they come to a dingy bar near you in the summer months of 2017.

In the theme of Old Carnivale, Neo-Victorian, Vaudeville Madness, WAIL Music Magazine, presents
Reverend Heathen StrangeFellow & The VaudeVille Vagabonds!
And this musical, theatrical, cabaret extravaganza experience, is nothing like you have ever seen before. Imagine, gritty grass roots Cirque du Soleil, in collaboration with a glitchy, diverse, swing/rock band.
Going strong for 4 years now, this project's early roots stem from Mexican Street Theatre. Creator Hjeron O'Sidhe (aka. Dr. Reverend Heathen StrangeFellow) ran a circus retreat in Mexico, and brought those influences back to Nelson, BC, to begin a theatre project. At that point, Hjeron worked in collaboration with Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra for music. Later, Hjeron relocated to Vancouver, BC, and the whole band, Reverend Heathen StrangeFellow & The VaudeVille Vagabonds, was formed. Hjeron is also the Founder of Mythmaker Productions, and has been facilitating sacred storytelling circus/theatre, for the last 15 years.

If you enjoy oddities and absurdities, Reverend Heathen StrangeFellow & The VaudeVille Vagabonds, is sure to surprise your senses, and stir up your sensibilities.
In this ever changing spectacle, where no two shows are alike, you just might see, wrestling werewolves, belly dancers and sword swallowing, game shows and fire dancing, circus acrobatics and clowning shenanigans. Meanwhile, these spectacles frame the stage for the truly unique band, complete with a Trumpet, Bari Sax, Bass, Drums and the Toy Piano, of course.
With original tracks showcasing haunting harmonies, powerful progressions and a widely diverse array of sounds, this unique collaboration is blowing audience's minds with every show. They are also stimulating those minds as well. With their intentional lyricism and potent messages that encourage free thought and autonomy, this band will have you really reflecting on the messages. In the song Rat Race, for example, Reverend Heathen StrangeFellow asks, "isn't it about time, we all question everything?", encouraging listeners to break out of any ordinary, pre-constructed, pre-programmed, cookie-cutter-culture routine they may be trapped in, and take a running jump into a mosh pit of extraordinary bizarre, freak show clowns, instead.

Attracting big crowds at their high energy, raw, live shows, DangerFloyd is often spotted ripping up the stage at Calgary venues like Studio 37, Vern's, Republik, The Blind Beggar Pub, Foxy's Bar & Grill, The Gateway (SAIT), Broken City Social Club and The Palomino.
DangerFloyd's last recording release was in 2010, and their online selection showcases their older style, although not recent, these tracks are very catchy and memorable. Listen to a few of those tracks here, www.reverbnation.com/dangerfloyd
Be sure to check out the song "Family Man", which guitarist/vocalist Kurtis Floyd states as his favourite track they have recorded to date.
The tracks on their Reverbnation page are all recorded live on floor, demonstrating DangerFloyd's raw talent and preference for authentic expression.
Something to note about DangerFloyd, is their live performances are consistantly high voltage, diversely creative and true to their recorded sound.
Since their last release in 2010, DangerFloyd has seen a lot of change. With the addition of new members, and now multiple song writers for the project, DangerFloyd is hard at work undergoing a new direction, and they couldn't be more excited.

Jaeger combines a memorable chorus, catchy hooks and relatable lyrics just aching to be sang along to. Jaeger's style can very much be described as Pop-Rock Western Radio, infused with Eastern influences, and atmospherical accompaniment of the sitar. This track, "Elevator" has a very interesting, and refreshing narrative about breaking free from mundane routines, to embracing ambiguity and perspective shifting adventure.
Uninhibited in content, and uplifting in sound and compilation, "Elevator" may just inspire you to embrace a new journey of your own.

The video for this single is a mosaic of clips and public service announcements from the public domain. Self-produced by Bil Lane & Sterile Jets, and non-conforming to one style or genre, the Sterile Jets showcase a fusion of punk, post-rock, jazz and metal, with surprising sides of rockabilly/grunge, making their sound and show truly unique. "Fireside Drive" captures the band's melodic side and love of distortion. This non-conforming, noise-rock trio, transcends the era's, from punk vocals reminiscent of the 80's to more modern fusions of jazz and metal. Their unique sound, combined with interesting clips from the public domain, make their music video a very unusual, abstract, commentary collage and sample of Western society and culture.
If you enjoy headbanging at maximum volume, eccentricity, and are a big fan of grunge punk, post-rock, metal and jazz, you just might find your new favourite track on this album.

Watch the music video for the single "Fireside Drive":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VSMOsXp2Gk

Websites

Delivering up some very relaxing, ambient electronica, Ryan Summers' full length album titled "F51.01" is a tranquil, electronic, atmospheric experience. The album is titled F51.01 after the ICD-10 code (a coding system used in the medical profession) for insomnia. F51.01 is a digital-only release and will be available on Spotify and Apple Music Feb 10, 2017.

In his own words, “My interest in ambient music grew after struggling with insomnia for several years. It helped keep my brain occupied on the nights when I couldn’t sleep. Only certain ambient music worked, though. I wanted to see if I could make more of that music.” -Ryan Summers

Blending layers of instruments to create new combinations of unique sound, Summers brings his listeners on a mellow, yet intriguing, abstract journey.
We recommend the track "Clock Works". A complete story telling with sounds, this song is meditative, rejuvenating and mesmerizing. Summers gradually builds layers to create a journey within the subconscious mind. A great track to put you in a trance when you want to dive inwards. "Well Tuned" is another great track. Summers' repetitive, gentle, hypnotic beats are enjoyable, and functional, as they are great for putting on before bed, and aid in deep relaxation.

So if you're in the mood to kick back, relax and journey deep into the depths of your subconscious, you will definitely find harmony with Ryan Summer's "F51.01" album. With a rapidly increasing cult following, a trend started to appear. Directed by 19 year old Dylan Mars Greenberg, the video has outlandish props, colourful cut & paste imagery and bold text that are reminiscent of low budget pop/ hip-hop videos from the late 80's, early 90's. It's hard to place the year this music video was made just by watching or listening to it. The song and video merge previous eras, with modern themes, keeping the viewer intrigued and curious throughout.
Marla Mase is definitely a unique creator and one to watch, as she continues her exploration of blurring the boundaries between genres, eras and merging old sound with current messages.
Listen/ Watch "Everybody Dies" here> www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQKS04nNCWo&feature=youtu.be

Written by JR McKeague, 2016WAIL MUSIC MAGAZINEtag:wailmusicmag.com,2005:Post/44729512016-11-17T22:47:12-08:002016-11-24T13:21:46-08:00no:carrier
WAIL Music Magazine Reviews no:carrier

Location: San Francisco/ Germany
Genre: Pop, Electro Pop, Synth Pop, Electro Noire Pop
Similar sound to: Erasure, Bat For Lashes, Portishead, Depeche Mode, Lana Del Rey

Featuring five singers, this Electro Noir band explores the dreaminess of humanity’s dark side.

no:carrier's sound is completely unique and varies from song to song, with reoccuring themes between tracks of eerie melody, mixed with somber power ballad electro instrumentals and melancholic catchy pop hooks.
“We can’t be compared easily. We have our very own sound that includes elements from several styles – from Dark Wave to Synthpop, from Acoustic to Electro,” says Chris Wirsig, main songwriter and producer of no:carrier
Since forming the band in 1995, no:carrier demonstrates their drive in the music industry by pumping out an impressive, diverse collection of albums: Last Scene EP (2013), Confession EP (2014), Wisdom & Failure (2014), Ghosts of the West Coast EP(2015)

no:carrier has already accumulated great reviews over the world, from media outlets like The Big Takeover, Orkus, Zillo, Sonic Seducer, Dark Spy, and ReGen, to name a few. Their first tour of the US West Coast brought them to the legendary Viper Room in Los Angeles, as well as other cities.
Most recently, no:carrier released their fifth album "Broken Rainbow" (11/11/16) –sub-titled "Ballads for an Apocalyptic World".
Each track of "Broken Rainbow" is a unique journey told with the combination of synth sounds, and vocals by the effervescent , Cynthia Wechselberger. This combination creates profound imagery, thus bringing the album to be reminiscent of a theatrical, post apocalyptic, soundscape. There are theatrical themes present throughout this emotionally riveting album. Perhaps this layered imagery of sound is due to Chris Wirsig's interest and experience in film soundtrack production.
Some of no:carrier's tracks from "Broken Rainbow" offer a soft critique on heavy societal issues using synth beats and melodic vocals. They address currently relevant dark subject matter, such as addiction, prostitution and death in an ambient, somber and enticing manner.
Whether you're in the mood for eerie ballads to swoon over, upbeat Electro melodic vocals to sing along to, or some Dark Wave to float with on a rainy day, no:carrier's versatile selection of albums offer contentment.

“Broken Rainbow” will be available digitally and on limited edition CD from iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp and other stores starting November 11, 2016.
